The Association of Defense Communities (ADC) has elected William Parry as President of its Board of Directors.
After retiring from 27 years of service with the U.S. Army, culminating with his final assignment as the Garrison Commander of Fort Hood, Parry was appointed the City Manager of Gatesville, Texas, in June 2015. Between his retirement and appointment as City Manager, Parry served as Executive Director of the Heart of Texas Defense Alliance, a local military advocacy group that drives initiatives in support of Fort Hood. Prior to the election, Parry served as Vice President of ADC’s Board of Directors for two years.
The Association of Defense Communities (defensecommunities.org) builds strong communities that support America’s military. ADC is the connection point for leaders from communities, states, the military and industry on community-military issues and installation management to enhance knowledge, information sharing and best practices. With nearly 300 communities, states, regions and affiliated industry organizations, ADC represents every major defense community/state in the nation.
Parry states, "I am honored to have been elected as President of ADC and continue the organization's great work advocating for military communities and our military, both at home and across the nation. Our community's involvement with ADC is one of the most effective ways we can support Fort Hood, and is integral to the future growth of the post and surrounding communities." One example of this is the recent designation of the Fort Hood-Central Texas Region as a Great American Defense Community by ADC.
“Bill’s long-standing commitment and hard work on behalf of the Association of Defense Communities makes him the ideal successor to the position I have held for the past three years.” ADC’s Past President Mike Cooper said. “His steadfast leadership is precisely what the Association needs during the current uncertain political environment.”
The election occurred during the association’s annual Defense Communities National Summit in Washington, D.C. The volunteer position is a two-year term.
